Fontanafredda

Fontanafredda was founded by Roggeri Giacomo in 1858, and its vineyards are located on the slopes of Piedmont Langhe. The history of the winery is deeply tied to the former king, as it used to be owned by King Vittorio Emanuele II. He fell in love with a commoner named Rosa Vercellana, and gave her the vineyards, making her the Baroness of Mirafiori and the owner of Fontanafredda. The name Fontanafredda means "fountain of the king". Today, the estate covers about 85 hectares and mainly grows Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Moscato, using steel tanks and large oak barrels for fermentation and aging. Despite its royal name, the winery is not detached from the world, constantly innovating and improving techniques, and diversifying by planting new grape varieties and creating new wines.
