Gazin

During the 18th century, Château Gazin was a small village that originated from the site of the Pomeyrols shelter (l'Hospital de Pomeyrols), which was built by knights to accommodate pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. As a result, their secondary wine label, "l'Hospitalet de Gazin," was named after this historical connection. The Gazin vineyard covers 26 hectares and is located on elevated terrain in the Pomerol appellation. The surface soil of the Gazin vineyard consists of Gunzian gravel, while the lower soil layers are composed of blue and green clay rich in oxidized iron elements (iron slag). This type of clay enables the vineyard to receive regular and adequate moisture, a characteristic shared by all premium vineyard regions. Gazin is adjacent to renowned estates such as L'Evangile and Petrus.
