Glenmorangie

Glenmorangie, founded in 1843, translates to "tranquil valley" in Gaelic. It was established by the Matheson brothers, William and John. The distillery has endured multiple wars and changes of ownership, ultimately being acquired by the globally renowned luxury brand conglomerate, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, for a staggering £300 million. The distillery has always relied on the Tarlogie Springs on its estate as a water source for production. This water is considered "hard water," contributing to the whisky's characteristic oily texture. Since its inception, Glenmorangie has been crafted by 16 skilled artisans known as the "Sixteen Men of Tain." Their names are engraved on the bottles. The team has now expanded to 24 craftsmen. The distillery also takes pride in using oak casks made from their own sustainably sourced wood, which undergo strict air-drying standards. This approach enhances the whisky's maturation potential, reduces tannins and bitterness from the wood, and brings out rich fruity aromas and a rounded body.
