Roche de Bellene is led by well-known Burgundy winemaker Nicolas Potel, the son of Gérard Potel, a former winemaker at Domaine de la Pousse d'Or. Nicolas Potel gained extensive experience working in his father's vineyards and got to know many talented winemakers. He previously established "La Maison Nicolas Potel" and carefully selects high-quality grapes from premium vineyards. The harvested fruit undergoes another round of selection on the sorting table at the winery. La Maison Nicolas Potel was also a pioneer in using modern equipment. In addition, the wines are bottled according to biodynamic regulations and aged in ancient cellars. Recognized for their quality, La Maison Nicolas Potel gradually gained a reputation. However, under significant financial pressure, Nicolas Potel sold both La Maison Nicolas Potel and the Nicolas Potel brand to another wine merchant, Cottin Frère, in 2005. Although Nicolas remained with the company, tensions arose between him and his partners. Ultimately, Nicolas left Maison Nicolas Potel and Domaine Nicolas Potel in 2009 but had already launched his own brand, Maison Roche de Bellene, in 2008.
