Nicolas Barbou represents the new guard of Loire Valley winemaking, treating his craft with an artist’s touch. His core philosophy, inspired by Aristotle's view of wine as "the superior joy of a free man," emphasizes art, freedom, and minimal intervention. He aims to craft emotional wines that express a pure vision, rather than conforming to traditional norms.

He grew up in a winemaking family at Domaine des Corbillières but sought external experience to shape his own identity. His time in New Zealand was formative, but his tenure under the legendary natural winemaker Jean-Yves Bizot in Burgundy was pivotal. Bizot’s precise, non-interventionist discipline profoundly influenced Barbou’s approach to viticulture and extended barrel aging. In 2019, he launched his highly personal label.

He treats his organically farmed vineyards as a sanctuary for biodiversity. In the cellar, patience is paramount. He employs whole-bunch pressing and long, undisturbed aging (around 20 months) in neutral Burgundian barrels, ensuring the wine stabilizes naturally with minimal sulfur added only at bottling.
