Sylvie Esmonin

The Esmonin family has a long history, with the winery changing its name three times. It was originally named after Sylvie Esmonin's father, Michel Esmonin, then changed to Domaine Michel Esmonin et Fille. In 1989, when the winery began bottling and selling its own wine, Michel's daughter Sylvie officially took over and the winery was renamed "Sylvie Esmonin."

Sylvie Esmonin graduated from the University of Montpellier with a degree in viticulture and has worked as a winemaker in various cellars and locations. When she took over the family winery, she expanded the vineyards from 3 hectares to almost 8 hectares. In addition to the outstanding Grand Cru vineyard Gevrey Chambertin Clos St-Jacques, both within and outside the village, she also has vineyards in Meursault, Valnay Santenots, and Cote de Nuits-Villages, making the range of wines more diverse. For winemaking, most of the grapes are fermented as whole clusters, and the proportion of new barrels has also increased. Sylvie believes that whole cluster fermentation has many benefits, including significantly increasing the complexity of the wine, while still maintaining an elegant style when adding structure and intensity to the wines. The oak barrels used for aging come from "barrel king" Dominique Laurent's cooperage, which helps to produce precise and powerful wines with a unique cola and coffee aroma.
