Agusti Torello Mata

Agustí Torelló Mata was founded in 1950, and the winery is named after its founder. The winery's most renowned creation is "Kripta," which has become one of the world's top five prestigious sparkling wines known as "Cava." Agustí Torelló Mata himself did not come from a notable winemaking family and had no prior background in the wine industry. However, his passion for wine led him to venture into the world of Spanish Cava.In the early days, he collaborated with several top wineries in the Penedès region, the heartland of Spanish Cava. In 1953, he even established the "Center for Premium Wine Research" to study the local climate, soil, and terroir in conjunction with other esteemed wineries. The winery focuses on using white grape varieties such as Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Parellada, as well as black grape varieties like Trepat and Subirat Parent.Agustí Torelló Mata places great importance on modern techniques, treasures 50-year-old vines, and employs hand-harvesting throughout the entire process. They adhere to the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle, allowing for a prolonged period of in-bottle aging. The winery not only prioritizes winemaking but also emphasizes ecological practices and sustainable agriculture. They refrain from using any chemical additives, aiming to pass down their legacy from one generation to the next.
