Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 93
From a south-facing, mid-slope parcel in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Pouillon’s 2018 Mareuil-sur-Aÿ Les Blanchiens originates from the family’s historic inaugural vineyard. Disgorged in October 2024 without dosage, it is a 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown on 1.2-meter-deep clay soils atop chalk. Aged in oak for a full year, it reveals aromas of orange zest, spices and ripe pear. On the palate, it is full-bodied and fleshy, with a core of sweet fruit, despite the absence of dosage, concluding with a long, enveloping finish. Reflecting the high maturity of the vintage, this is among the most textural and powerful wines in the current lineup, rivaled only by the 2018 Les Valnons.
